Bortolomiol

Having always been a point of reference on the Prosecco panorama, the Bortolomiol winery is based in Valdobbiadene, in the heart of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG appellation area.

The sparkling winemaking company was founded by Giuliano Bortolomiol in the 1940s, although the family tradition dates back to 1760. Giuliano, who graduated from the Conegliano School of Oenology, was the first to create a Prosecco brut.

Today the winery is run by sisters Elvira, Maria Elena, Giuliana and Luisa Bortolomiol, who are committed and passionate about carrying on the family tradition, making continuous investments into technology and overseeing the entire production process. Aided by a team of oenologists headed by Roberto Cipresso, the Bortolomiol sisters focus their attention on sustainable projects that safeguard mankind and the land.

The crowning glory in the collection of sparkling wines is the Grande Cuvée del Fondatore Motus Vitae – Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG: this wine, a homage to Giuliano Bortolomiol, encompasses all the family’s sparkling winemaking experience. Having won many awards in the most prestigious international competitions, this Prosecco Superiore is a Rive made exclusively with grapes from the San Pietro di Barbozza vineyard, a Millesimato in order to present the special characteristics of each vintage in the best possible way, and a Brut Nature or zero dosage wine, which involves it being left on the lees for ten months.

The Bortolomiol family has also renovated and refurbished an ancient silk mill in the centre of Valdobbiadene, inside the Parco della Filandetta – Art & Wine Farm. The history of silk mills and that of wine production were intertwined for the whole of the last century. Today, the property has been renovated and converted into a large tasting room, in memory of all those women who once lived and worked here. Bortolomiol wanted to pay homage to their commitment in this important part of local history by undertaking a sustainable farming project, to safeguard the rural heritage of this area, nominated to become a UNESCO world heritage site in years to come.

With this purpose in mind, the Parco della Filandetta houses two hectares of organically farmed vineyards that produce the Ius Naturae Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Organic Wine, the natural consequence of the Bortolomiol family production policy, always committed to engaging in sustainable and environmentally-friendly wine growing practices. At harvest time two full days are given over to picking these grapes to ensure absolute control over their quality and ripeness.

Attention and care for the environment and the vineyard are indicators of a social responsibility for the territory that the Bortolomiol family has decided to extend to all grape suppliers through the Green Mark project. This is an internal protocol launched in 2011 which, through a series technical indications which the grape suppliers have chosen to adhere to, aims to improve the way the grapes and vineyards are managed with the least possible impact on the environment and an increasing environmentally-friendly approach.
