Casey Lane is chef and owner of The Tasting Kitchen in Venice, California, Casa Apicii in New York’s Greenwich Village and Viale dei Romani in West Hollywood.
After a childhood spent drawn to his Marseilles-born mother and grandfather’s cooking for family gatherings, Lane decided to attend culinary school in Portland based on his simple belief that “the best food in the world only ever comes from farmland.” After graduating and getting his professional start in banquet catering, Lane began cooking at Portland’s Clarklewis restaurant in 2003. At Clarklewis, Lane would spend the next five years under Chef Morgan Brownlow developing his skills and knowledge about true farm-to-table cooking. His experience with Chef Brownlow would serve as the guiding principles of his own culinary style in the years to come.
In 2009, Lane moved to Los Angeles and was given the opportunity to reboot a Scandinavian restaurant on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice called AK. With little more than a handwritten menu and minor subsequent renovations, Lane’s cooking alone transformed the space into The Tasting Kitchen, which remains one of LA’s most popular neighborhood staples. Lane was awarded multiple “best of” accolades from GQ, Food & Wine, Los Angeles Magazine and more that year, which initiated a four-year-long run as a semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation’s ‘Rising Star Chef of the Year’ award. “The Tasting Kitchen has prepared some of the most delicious food I’ve eaten all year,” wrote Jonathan Gold in a 2009 LA Weekly review.
We are thrilled to announce that our exclusive Krug Lovers Dinner will be prepared by Chef Casey Lane at his white-hot new restaurant in the Hotel La Peer in West Hollywood. Lane’s career trajectory culminates at Viale dei Romani, where his deft touch with both European technique and California’s local bounty are given full expression.
