Much like in Champagne, a new wave of growers in Spain’s Catalunya region are reinvigorating “farmer fizz”. Long-considered one of the great treasures of the Peñedès region, the sparkling wines of Bodegas Colet offer both value and nuance. The Colet family, helmed by son Sergi Colet’s winemaking, have been growing grapes since the 1970s although they did not bottle under their own label until 1987.
Designated as DO Peñedès since 2004 rather than as Cava, the sparkling wines from this bodega offer exceptional value and quality. Made from the traditional trio of Catalan grapes, Colet’s sparklers are a wonderful introduction to Spanish bubblies.
